MEU May 2020 (Short Version)

Three months after the first Covid-19 case was confirmed in Indonesia, the total number of positive cases has exceeded 24,000. The average daily growth rate of new cases in the last week of May 2020 in each province is around 0.4% -12.3%. The total number of Covid-19 cases in Java is still the highest compared to other regions in Indonesia, however the average rate of daily new cases has begun to decline.

Indonesia economic growth in the first quarter of 2020 dropped dramatically to 2.97% from 5.07% in the same quarter of the previous year.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, regional governments located in Java island are predicted to experience a deficit in 2020. Increasing regional government budget deficit will affect the regional fiscal capacity to accelerate recovery of the regional economy. PT SMI's Economic Research Division projects that the Rp 5 trillion of the ERRC program given to provinces in Java will be able to increase added value and absorb employment not only in the regions of Java, but also regions outside Java.
